“Pescheria” is the largest fish market in Venice . Rialto became an important district in 1097 when Venice market moved there . The market of Rialto is mentioned in Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice”, where Shylock asks : ” What news on the Rialto” (Act 1, scene 3rd). Here you can find a great variety of local fish , under two buildings in neo-gothic style.
In 1800 Pescheria was a center of commerce together with the Erberia , the greengrocer’s market . It isn’t difficult to get there: Pass along campo S. Giacomo dall’Orio and Sottoportego de la frabrica , it’s in campo de la Pescaria.
